About Moissanite

Moissanite is a beautiful gemstone made from Silicon Carbide (SiC). It has a hardness of 9.5 on the Mohs scale, making it one of the hardest gemstones available after diamond.

Although natural moissanite was discovered by Henri Moissan in a meteor crater, it is far too rare to be mined for jewellery. As a result, virtually all moissanite gemstones sold worldwide are laboratory grown. Lab-grown moissanite has the same chemical composition, hardness and optical properties as natural moissanite.

Moissanite is one of the most diamond-like gemstones available. It is even harder than Cubic Zirconia and produces more fire (rainbow flashes) than a diamond. Larger stones can also pass many older electronic diamond testers.

Moissanite lots are sold by weight rather than quantity. The approximate number of stones for each size is shown alongside the weight. For example, 1 carat of 1mm moissanite contains approximately 215 stones.

We try to match the colour of the photos as close as possible with the colour of the gemstone, but like natural stones cz varies slightly in colour within the material and depth of colour varies with the size of the stone. Colour descriptions vary online and screen colour settings vary, so it is impossible to be spot on with the colour.

Cubic zirconia is often misrepresented. Sellers may label 1A as 3A, or send a few good 6A samples but deliver lower-quality stones in the final order. Others mix poor-quality stones in larger packs without disclosing it.
