These are genuine Czochralski-pulled laboratory-grown blue sapphires, produced using the Czochralski crystal-growth method rather than the more common flame-fusion (Verneuil) process or hydrothermal growth.
In the Czochralski process, high-purity aluminium oxide is melted and a seed crystal is slowly pulled from the molten material, allowing a large sapphire crystal to grow. Titanium and iron are added to produce the characteristic blue colour.
Czochralski-grown sapphire is valued for its controlled crystal growth, excellent clarity and consistent colour. It is a different and generally more sophisticated production method than inexpensive flame-fusion material.
Importantly, Czochralski-pulled sapphire should not be confused with hydrothermal sapphire. Hydrothermal sapphires are produced using an entirely different process and have different microscopic growth characteristics.
A trained gemologist can often distinguish different synthetic growth methods by examining the internal growth features under magnification. Czochralski sapphire may display characteristic microscopic features such as minute, parallel-arranged gas bubbles, whereas hydrothermal sapphire can show distinctive chevron or roiled growth structures. However, definitive identification of the growth method may require professional gemological testing.
This is laboratory-grown sapphire, not natural sapphire — but it is genuine sapphire (corundum), with the same fundamental chemical composition and physical properties as natural sapphire.
Blue Sapphire Colour Description
We try to match the colour of the photos as close as possible with the colour of the gemstone, but like natural stones cz varies slightly in colour within the material and depth of colour varies with the size of the stone. Colour descriptions vary online and screen colour settings vary, so it is impossible to be spot on with the colour.
If you have photos or videos of this stone, or artwork or jewellery you have made using this stone, you can upload
